School Announcements
Cushman Kindergarteners are readers!
On Friday, Cushman students marched through the halls ringing bells, shaking maracas and tapping tambourines. The big celebration was to announce to the world that they are readers. The students have been studying informational books, as well as storybooks.  They learned that they can study the visuals to understand an informational book, or can use the pictures and their own words to construct the story in a storybook.   Although they are not actually able to read these books like older readers, we still call what they do reading.  This work is the beginning of really reading and will help set down a strong foundation. The biggest message in our first unit of study was to create kids who want to learn to read and who believe that they can do it.  Just look at those faces-true believers!

Michael, a Cushman Kindergartener, earned a Cushman coin for helping a recess monitor. In his words,"It feels so good inside to get a coin!"

A huge thank you to Christine and Ann from Sophie's Promise for donating sensory tools and materials to our PreK classrooms.  We are so grateful for your generosity and commitment to the needs of all students!
